The most effective way to prep the logs is to use a powder form media followed by a light sanding or Osborne brushing. This will guarantee the wood pores are open and will allow proper absorption of the stain. If this process is excluded, the stain will not be absorbed and just lay on the surface of the log causing product failure. We then apply one coat of a high-quality exterior stain followed by caulking of all windows, doors, between log courses, joints, corners, upward checks, Etc. The second coat of stain is then applied sealing all the caulking or chinking to ensure the home is weather-tight and energy-efficient. For the interior, we begin by cleaning and prepping the logs to remove all mill glaze, construction residue, water stains, etc. by media blasting using a powder form material. Next, we will Osborne brush and/or light sand to open the wood pores for optimal product absorption. We use low-VOC, high-performance finishes that enhance the natural beauty of the wood while providing long-term protection against picture framing, wear, stains, and moisture. We also seal all joints, corners, and gaps with professional caulking or chinking to ensure a tight, energy-efficient structure.
